Chemical & Biological Control

There are many methods used to control rats, including maintaining sanitation, trapping, chemical control, and biological control.

Norway rats seek objects that they can burrow under to make nests. Rats also seek areas with available food and garbage. Thus, sanitation will exclude rats by changing the environment.

Buildings can be made rat-proof by sealing all openings that are greater than 1 centimeter and by covering edges with sheet metal to prevent chewing.

If rats are already established, the use of spring traps is an effective method of control. Trapping does not involve toxins and the trapped rodent can be removed to prevent odors from the carcass.
