Chestnut blight is a canker disease. Its common name comes from the fact that infected branches and stems die quickly.

The disease-causing fungus forms tubes through the bark of an infected tree. The areas where blight are growing are bright orange.

Chestnut blight reproduces by spores that are forced out into the environment, where they are dispersed by animals, wind, and water.
